My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion. The music was composed by Frederick Loewe and the lyrics were written by Alan Jay Lerner.
The musical premiered on Broadway in 1956 and was an instant success, running for over 2,700 performances. It tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins in order to pass as a lady in high society. The musical includes well-known songs such as “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” and “Get Me to the Church on Time.”
My Fair Lady has been adapted into several films and has been revived numerous times on stage, including a 2018 production on Broadway starring Lauren Ambrose and Harry Hadden-Paton.
